laptop screen?

The screen on my HP laptop is completely black. For a while, it worked but flashed all sorts of bright colors randomly. Sometimes I could put pressure on it at certain angles to keep the screen looking normal, but now, it won’t even show anything except black. What could be wrong? What do I need to do to fix it?

Maybe the problem you are having is because the cable is loose or has fallen out. Check the Internet for hp downloads with exploded views for your model. I tried looking for mine but have no acrobat reader on this cheap and slow computer I am on now, so I am only guessing that this is the one. I had to replace my memory on my hp pavilion and it required me to remove half the computer parts to get to it. I figured out how to change it without removing the screen because I was afraid to have the problem you are having now. Here is the link. If you are lucky it will be one of the 2 models in this pdf. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00212209.pdf
Good luck,
Craig
ask someone to fix it like geeksquad
you need a new sceen inverter get one of ebay for around £10-15 and do it yourself its easy enough, just take the plastic off the front of the screen you will see the inverter at the bottom it just plugs in.
its a gateway i bet those laptops suuuck send it to best buy they will fix it!!
your screens gone you need a new screen/[or a new laptop] it will be expensive but there is a way around it go on ebay and buy a cheep BROKEN computer "the same as yours" and unscreew your laptop take the screen off and fix the new one on

You may have damged the LCD screen try to take your laptop to a near by HP service station.
i think its the inverter cable did the same thing to my toshiba tecra m2 and my dad replaced it now its fine
There is a cable which connects motherboard with Screen. Due to movement of Laptop lid while opening and closing, sometimes it gets damaged. The sysmptoms which you’ve given suggests that the cable got broken up. You just need to get it replaced from vendor.
yes please.
I own an HP as well. Most likely is the ribbon harness running from the chassis to the screen, as suggested in a prior post. It seems to be a common problem for HP laptops.
Ordering a replacement screen from HP can cost as much as a new laptop( most expensive component on parts list ).
Third party outlets offer compatible screens for far less, but you have to install them, or take to a shop .
But before you throw any money into the pit, try taking it down to a local computer shop & have it diagnosed. Y’know…. Like you would with your car!
damaged the corre to the screen definately. A laptop screen can be few hundred to replace on your. So if you don’t have the tech savvy to fix it yourself go to a repair shop or the company. If you need your data you can always remove the hard drive and use it elsewhere. Opening the laptop to a certain extent will void the waranty so think about it before you try anything because it is broken.
There is a flexible cable that connects the screen to the main board in the notebook. This can work loose and give the symptoms you describe. It would need to be checked by a qualified technician. An easy check for you to carry out would be to connect an external monitor to your system and see if the display is correct. If it is then the fault is either with the cable as decribed above or the screen itself. If the fault is still apparent on the external screen then there is something more serious with the notebook. Hope this helps you.
There is a loose connection between the video output and the screen. Either that or the screen itself has broken. Take it to the shop for repairs. I hope you have a good warranty it’s ex[ensive. In the mean time you could hook up an external moitor to use the PC.
read the manual.
then if its stays black, press ctrl + shift + delete then press the power button for 5 secs till it turns off. remove the batteries.
if this doesnt work ask hp for a replacement
i know this is stupid.
but have you tried restarting it and making sure its unplugged.
also if it ask for safe mode when you start it back up go with that then restart it once again or it might even be better to shut down and turn back on in about five minutes.
It could be a switch which closes when you fold close the screen or it could be your graphics card.
either your screen is cracked on the inside and you can’t feel it on the outside or… the cord tht connects to your computer part is striped or broken or something..
If it flickered and got worse until it stopped working that is almost assuredly the cable that comes from the motherboard to the screen. It is usually concealed one of the two hinges and eventually it just tears from opening and closing. It is a number of very thin copper leads in a plastic housing flayed out flat, almost like a piece of tape. If that is bad you need a pro to fix it. I would take it to an HP certified repair shop. If it is less than a year old it is under warranty most likely. Nearly all consumer electronics come with a one year manufacturer limited warranty whether you buy a service plan from the store or not. If you can dig up your receipt or some other proof of the date of purchase HP may fix it for you.
If it is older than a year, it may not be worth fixing. I would not attempt to fix it yourself but the most expensive part of a laptop is the screen so people sell their screens from broken laptops on e bay all the time and the screen may come with the connector that is bad. Good Luck.
could be what the last person said. could also be that behind the screen is shattered or something like that. happened with my cell screen. that’s not that likely if you haven’t like dropped it or anything. but that is kinda how my screen on my cell acted. if that is the case, i don’t really know how you would fix it. you would have to get a new screen and i am not positive if that would fix it even but u might be able to get HP to fix it if it’s under warranty. still, not very likely that that’s it if u haven’t dropped it or put a lot of pressure on the screen. but if it is under warranty, hp will probably fix it for you, even if that isn’t i. good luck.
It is possible that you have damaged the screen or a cord has undone or split. I would go to a computer shop and ask them how you could fix it or take your computer to the place yu bought it and see if they can look and fix it for you.
There is a small button/switch that causes the screen to shutdown when you close the laptop, sometimes this gets stuck down. I have taken a pair of tweezers and wiggled the button and it popped out and the screen started working.
Might be your problem, sure sounds like it could be.
Note the switch is going to be somewhere near the hinge and is really small.
If it isn`t the screen switch near the hinged area, then it could be the screen bulb needs to be replaced, a bad rectifier connection or loose plug. The screen could be replaced also, sometimes they will malfunction. I replaced mine from a used laptop parts supplier.
